Minimize Pore Size on Face

If you want to minimize the pore size on your face, the easy answer is to exfoliate. There are several methods of exfoliation that will work to both clean out your pores and reduce the number of dry skin cells that hold onto the edges of the pores, which makes the openings appear larger.

Why Some Pores Are Large

According to skincare expert Renee Rouleau's blog, pore size is determined when you're a teenager and is based on how oily your skin is. Those with oily skin all over will have larger pores, those with oily T-zones will have larger pores in that area, and those with dry skin won't have very large pores at all. As time goes on and the skin loses its elasticity and tightness, however, pore size may seem to increase. Thank gravity for that.

The skin isn't pulled back as tightly anymore, so the indentations in the skin become more obvious. The pore size can then be exacerbated by dry skin holding onto the pores or dirty pores in general. The key to minimizing pore size on the face, then, is to exfoliate regularly and keep the pores oil-and-dirt-free.
Methods That Minimize Pore Size on the FaceMicrodermabrasion: According to SkinAbrasion.net, microdermabrasion will remove the outer layer of skin and, with the help of suction, help clear away the blackheads that cause the appearance of enlarged pores. This is one of the more expensive methods for decreasing the appearance of large pores and often involves making an appointment with a professional.

Microdermabrasion has also been shown to improve collagen production and fight large pores from an anti-aging standpoint.Cold water: This is a temporary fix, but if you have a special date or event and want tightened pores for a few hours, rinsing your face with very cold water is a solution. It doesn't take days or weeks of use to see an improvement and you don't have to order anything online and wait for it to be shipped to your home before you can put it to use.Home facial scrubs: Make sure you get a facial scrub with round beads in order to avoid tiny tears in your skin. You may also use a damp washcloth with your regular facial cleanser. This will remove the dry skin that collects around the edges of the pores and makes them look deeper than they are.

CosmeticsCop.com reports that this method of exfoliation isn't as effective as others because you only have access to the very top layer of skin when you use a scrub or a washcloth.AHA: This is a type of chemical exfoliant that works well for dry or sun-damaged skin, and it is available in more than one strength. AHAs are used to dissolve dead skin cells on the surface of the skin and supply some moisture, though they don't replace a normal moisturizer. An example of an AHA, or alpha-hydroxy acid, is glycolic acid.BHA: According to CosmeticsCop.com, BHA is ideal for those with oily, acne-prone, or very sensitive skin that turns red easily (as with rosacea). It cleans the pores from the inside out and works through the oil that's clogging the pores, which makes them appear smaller.Choosing the Right Method

None of the methods will actually shrink the size of your pores. However, they will minimize their appearance and give the illusion of smaller pores. It's impossible to actually decrease their diameter. The right choice for your needs will depend on your budget, time constraints for appointments or the skin care regimens that involve AHAs and BHAs, and other skin issues you may have, such a rosacea, oiliness, or sun damage. Be sure to only try one new product per week so that you won't overload your skin. If you do have a reaction, you'll know which one to eliminate from your routine. With patience and effort, your skin will reap the rewards and look clearer and feel softer.

Roseola Rash - Symptoms na Identification

Roseola Rash appears in children, mostly between three months to four years old, that have a fever-triggered virus. Roseola has a slow incubation period and may not be immediately noticeable. In fact, the rash may appear up to one week after the fever has dissipated.

Identifying the Rash

Roseola Rash develops after a prolonged high fever that can reach 105 degrees Fahrenheit. The rash is temporary and will slowly fade as the child’s fever drops. It will look pink at first, but darkens over time. The most common place to see this symptom is across the child’s torso, followed by the arms, the legs and the neck. The rash may also appear on the face. Besides skin discoloration, small sores will appear in the rash, and temporary halos will appear around the sores if they are pressed. It doesn’t itch, but the rash can make the child more irritable.

Accompanying Symptoms of Roseola Rush

Besides the obvious changes in the skin, you can expect to see a few of these accompanying symptoms:
Swollen lymph nodes: Expect swollen lymph nodes on the back of the child’s head and neck. These may swell noticeably, or they may not be visible at all.Runny nose: Due to the high fever, an infant’s nose my produce a clear discharge. A runny nose is a mechanism the body uses to modify its internal temperature.Coughing: Roseola may cause coughing or hacking.Earaches: Pain in the ears and other sinus pain often accompany the rash.Diarrhea: High temperature may trigger diarrhea. This is concerning for caregivers, because children can dehydrate after a short time.Vomiting: Also a side effect of the high fever, vomiting is a common symptom.

The most dangerous symptom of this disease is the high fever. Extremely high fevers may make little ones lethargic and sleepy. Call your child's pediatrician if this occurs, or take your infant to the emergency room. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

More About Roseola

Other names for roseola are Exanthema subitum and Sixth disease. According to the Center for Disease Control, the looks much like the measles rash. Some extreme complications can occur with this common childhood disease, including Aseptic meningitis and encephalitis. The most common complication is febrile seizures, or convulsions triggered by the high fever. There is no specific treatment plan for roseola; most doctors focus on keeping the temperature down and keeping the child hydrated. Sixth disease is contagious, but only during the first few days of infection. Once the rash appears, it is likely that the child is no longer infected. Pediatricians often release a child back to school once the fever breaks.

Your Child and Roseola

No one wants to see their child sick, especially with a high fever or noticeable rash. The best way to care for your child's is to curb the fever with acetominophen or ibuprofen. It is not recommended that you give aspirin to children who have a virus, as this can cause Reye syndrome (a rare condition that may cause damage to the brain and liver). A lightly cool or lukewarm cloth on the skin will provide comfort, but don't shock your child with anything icy cold. Avoid putting alcohol on the rash. Instead, use soft cotton clothing and keep the room temperature cool. Clear sodas that have gone flat are good drinks for kids withe roseola. Focus on healing with a combination of patience, a gentle touch and the right treatment.

Scarlet Fever Rash - Symptoms, Treatment and Diagnosis

The sounds worse than it actually is in most cases. It's the rash sometimes associated with strep throat and can usually be easily treated with antibiotics. Not everyone who gets strep throat gets scarlet fever, but they are caused by the same bacteria and share symptoms.

What the Looks Like

As the name suggests, the is extremely red and has the appearance of a severe sunburn. In addition, it may be accompanied by small, itchy bumps or red stripes in creases (elbows, underarms, etc). The texture is like fine sandpaper. It may show up on the neck, cheeks, nose, and forehead first, before working its way down to the rest of the body. The area around the mouth typically is unaffected. Don't be alarmed if the skin that had the rash begins to peel after the rash is gone. The rash usually goes away by the sixth day, but peeling may continue.

Symptoms that Accompany the Rash

Scarlet fever is most commonly seen in children between two and ten years of age and is caused by the same bacteria, Streptococcus, that causes strep throat and impetigo. It is rarely seen in children over 10 or in adults. According to Kids Health, other symptoms that may show up along with the rash include:
Red, sore throatA fever of more than 101 degrees FahrenheitSwollen neck glandsTonsils and may have a white or red appearanceChillsNauseaBody achesNo appetiteCoating on the tongue that appears to be whitish or yellowishScarlet Fever and Strep Throat

Not all cases of strep throat are accompanied by scarlet fever. There are two reasons for this:
The individual may not be sensitive to the toxin the bacteria associated with strep creates. Not all of the bacteria that cause strep make the toxin that causes the rash.
If your child has the symptoms of scarlet fever and/or strep throat, don't wait for it to go away on its own. See a doctor for a diagnosis and antibiotics that can be used to treat the infection. A simple throat culture using a cotton swab will confirm the diagnosis.

Is It Contagious?

Scarlet fever, along with strep, is contageious. It can be transmitted from person to person by coughing, sneezing, and direct contact. Once a person has come into contact with the infection, the symptoms will normally appear in one to three days.

Treating Scarlet Fever

Once you've taken your child to the pediatrician, give him the prescribed medication (usually penicillin or erythromycin) and be sure to rest, drink plenty of fluids, and use lozenges to relieve the throat pain. Medication such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen can be used to treat the fever and pain, according to eMedicine Health. Be sure that you don't prematurely discontinue the course of antibiotics your doctor prescribed, even if you feel better.

If You Suspect Your Child Has Scarlet Fever

If your child has the telltale skin redness, red lines, tongue or throat coating, and pain, chances are he has scarlet fever. Take him to the doctor for a quick test to confirm the diagnosis and combine the medication from the doctor with plenty of rest and fluids. He should bounce back within about seven days, though the peeling skin could continue after that.

Over-the-Counter Treatments

For people with moderate acne, over-the-counter can often clear their skin. Drug store acne remedies are sold in creams, gels, sticks, washes, masks, and other forms, but typically contain one or more of the following ingredients:

Benzoyl peroxide: Benzoyl peroxide is considered a very effective acne agent. Over-the-counter concentrations are typically found in 10 percent strength or less.Salicylic acid: Salicylic acid unclogs pores and breaks down the cycle of bacterial growth that causes pimples.Sulfur: Sulfur is used in acne masks, spot treatments, and other products to heal and prevent acne without over-drying the skin.Medical Treatments

Adult Acne - Reasons And Treatments

The term acne or more commonly known as the acne vulgaris is a very common skin disease of the human, which is characterized by the areas of the skin with the scaly red skin or seborrhea, whiteheads and blackheads or the comedones, the pinheads or papules,  the pimples or pustules,  the large papules or nodules, and also possibly by scarring. The acne affects mostly the skin along with the densest population of the sebaceous follicles. These areas are the upper part of the chest, the back, and also the face. The dangerous acne is the inflammatory. The acne also can be manifested in the non-inflammatory forms. The lesions are because of the changes in pilo-sebaceous units, the skin structures comprising of the hair follicle and also its connected sebaceous gland, alters which need the androgen stimulation.

The acne happens most usually during the adolescence, and oftentimes continues into the adulthood. In the adolescence, acne is normally caused because of an increase in the testosterone, which the people of the both genders fall during the puberty. For the most people, the acne decreases over time and inclines to vanish or at the very least reduction after one arrives at one’s early mid-twenties. There is, nevertheless, no way to anticipate how long it will assume to vanish completely. The adult acne affects the twenty five percent of all adult men and about fifty percent of all adult women at the some time in their adult lives.

The one third of the adults affected with the facial acne and also has acne on the body. These are some official statistics. The people also can arise unpleasant acne and also have the recurrence acne. The dermatologists discover themselves watching more adult acne patients than in the former decades. The recent epidemiological reports demonstrate that there seems to be an increment in the post-adolescent acne and the disease is long-lasting and needs well treatment into their middle forties. Irrespective of while individual battles with the acne, it can be very hard to deal, and can induce social anxiety and depression in the adult the same manner as it can in the teenager.

Though the reasons of the adult acne are unknown, the potential reasons can include the stress, cosmetics, hormones, and also an increase of the resistant bacteria. The women particularly oftentimes go through the premenstrual flares, oftentimes throughout the mouth. The Acne normally starts with the blackheads. The blackheads are not the dirt. They are actually the outcome of the dead cells and oil getting entrapped in the pore, in which they blockade the duct and also mix with bacteria. Never treat the adult acne as the acne of teen kind. The product which is used as a teenager does not work on the adult skin. Many products for the adult acne exist; nevertheless, one of the best treatments for the adult acne is indistinguishable to the best treatment for the teen acne is the benzoyl peroxide, but it must be administrated in a specific way for achieving the total clearing.

Anti Aging Skin Care Secrets And Tips

Contrary to what most people believe, an anti aging skin care routine doesn't have to be such hard work nor should it be too complicated. To achieve healthy looking skin, one only needs to understand the aging process and perform some simple steps involving natural cures and skin care products. The good news is that anti aging skin treatment doesn't have to be expensive.

In order to retard the effects of aging, what you need is to understand why skin loses its elasticity thus the appearance of sags and wrinkles. The simplest explanation is that as the body ages, the skin cells produce less and less collagen and elastins that are needed to keep the skin soft, firm and supple. Also because of damaging processes, the levels of these important proteins become insufficient thereby affecting the skin's overall elasticity and firmness as well. These proteins are the same ones that you should focus on when planning out your daily anti aging skin care treatment.

Below are some important things to note in preserving and maintaining collagen and elastins to help slow down the signs of aging. These are very simple steps to take if you wish to maintain the health and vibrant glow of your skin.

Hydrate - We know that the body is composed of 70% water. Although it may sound a bit of a cliche, drinking enough liquids daily is the first fundamental step that you need to incorporate in your anti aging skin care routine. By keeping your body hydrated, you keep your skin looking young. Eight glasses of water a day should be enough to keep you well hydrated.

Diet - Your appearance is a reflection of what you actually eat. You will notice that if your diet consists mainly of junk and fast food, your skin shows this. Healthy foods are your natural cures and therefore a healthy glowing skin is a sign of good nutrition supplemented by vitamins and minerals and a load of antioxidants. So do not hesitate to incorporate those fruits, green leafy vegetables and vitamin supplements into your diet to achieve a complete anti skin aging routine.

Sun exposure - The sun is a good source of Vitamin D. However, too much exposure to the sun also brings harmful effects to your skin making it a detriment to your anti aging skin care routine. Always remember to use sun protection when going outdoors and use a good sun screen.
If you choose an anti aging skin treatment product for your skin care, do keep in mind the following:

Collagens and Elastins - You will encounter many skin care products that contain this. Be wary of them because the molecules of collagen and elastin are too big for the skin to absorb when administered topically. You are better off with products that stimulate the production of these proteins.

Skin nourishment - A healthy diet combined with proper hydration will prove to be beneficial and enhance any anti aging treatment you have. This will make your skin soft, supple and younger looking.

Mild and natural - This is what your anti aging skin care treatment should be so as to effectively revitalize and retard any signs of skin aging.

Underarm Sweating - Use Botox Injection

Underarm sweating is a severe problem faced by millions of people across the globe. It is a chronic condition wherein the subject has severe sweating in the arm pits and is referred to Axillary Hyperhidrosis. More than a million people in the U.S alone suffer from this disease. People suffering from Axillary Hyperhidrosis have been found to sweat four times more than normal subjects in order to maintain a normal body temperature. This condition can not only be a social stigma but if left ignored for long can lead to swelling, itching and redness of the underarms.

As far as sweaty underarms are concerned, people have reported that they have not been able to concentrate on their work and there has been a constant “low” feeling at parties and social gatherings. Be it inside a crowded bus or an evening garden party, Axillary Hyperhidrosis has been found to be a serious contributor towards low self esteem of the subjects.

The good news however, is that you can get rid of that smelly sweat forever with Botox injections. Botox has been approved the U.S FDA for treatment of Axillary Hyperhidrosis. Botox is not new to the medical fraternity. It has been successfully used for treating wrinkles. The very recent studies published are long term ones and Botox has been found to be effective in keeping severe underarm sweating at bay for at least two years.

Antiperspirants and prescription creams have been used for long to fight sever underarm sweating. Deodorants have been so extensively used and trusted upon that people tend to blame the amount of deodorant sprayed, not the deodorant itself for underarm stench. Botox injections can replace all such creams and sprays effectively. The myth of spraying more to fight sweat more however holds true for Botox to some extent. Recent three year trials on large populations have shown that people seemed to respond more to the treatment when given repeatedly. The study revealed that after the first treatment, 82% of the treated population had a reduction of symptoms by 75% four weeks after the injection and four weeks after the second and third dosages, the “sweat reduction” population went up to 79%. That clearly shows that Botox injections can keep sweaty underarms at bay if taken repeatedly. The trials have also concluded that Botox injections are safe and do not cause reactions or long term after effects when used regularly.

Botox injections work by blocking the chemical signals that are sent to the sweat glands. When the glands don’t receive signals, sweating process is inhibited. Taking a Botox therapy doesn’t require a lot of time. You can spend just ten to fifteen minutes at the doctor’s chamber and get a Botox injection. The cost usually varies from doctor to doctor, but you can expect each treatment to cost you to the tune of $2000. That however is acceptable if you consider the social stigma of severe underarm sweating.

In the follow-up study, researchers found Botox continued to be effective with repeated treatment. After the first treatment, 82% had up to a 75% reduction in sweat production in four weeks after the injection.

Four weeks after treatments two and three, 79% experienced the same degree of relief.

Overall, 94% of patients required four or fewer Botox injections to control their symptoms during the two-year study.

Botox May Ease Social Stigma of Sweat

The study also found that the treatment had a positive effect on the patients' quality of life, for example:

Before treatment, 66%-72% of patients were somewhat or very dissatisfied with their ability to perform their current work activities, compared with 9%-20% after treatment.
The number of patients who reported feeling "emotionally damaged or injured" due to their hyperhidrosis reduced by about half before and after treatment, from 76%-83% to 32%-42%.
Participants reported significantly less limitation in interpersonal and social situations. Before treatment 17%-33% said they were somewhat or very satisfied with their ability to perform nonwork activities. After treatment, that proportion increased to 78%-88%.

Glaser presented the results of the study this week at a meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology in Chicago. Funding for the study was provided by Allergan, Inc., which produces Botox

How to cure acne - acne remedies and treatments

Perhaps, due to the high percentage of people who suffer from acne in one form or another, it should not be surprising that there are many varied and contradictory acne remedies available, both on the retail market, and as old wives tales.
The most commonly accepted acne treatments can be categorised and summarised as follows:

1)     Hygiene

a)     Simple soap and water

It is a common misconception that acne is caused by bad hygiene. Parents are for ever berating their children for not washing correctly. The simple truth is that cleansing with soap and water will not cure acne, on the contrary, over scrubbing of the affected skin can cause the condition to worsen. This does not mean you do not need to wash every day, staying clean is essential for keeping unaffected skin soft and healthy.

b)     Over the counter scrubs and cleansers

Acne scrubs usually contain some form of abrasive material. The principle being that, the material being rubbed against the skin will help to slough off dead skin cells and therefore prevent the follicle from becoming blocked. You should avoid over abrasive scrubs. As with soap and water, too much scrubbing can cause adverse effects.

Cleansers are used to remove dirt and oil from the skin. Most commercial products contain salicylic acid possibly combined with benzoyl peroxide. These products may have a tendency to dry out the skin more than is considered healthy, especially in people with skin that is sensitive to the specific compounds.

2)     Creams and ointments

Acne ointments and creams are usually sulphur based.  Sulphur has a softening effect on the skin and aids in removing hard dead cells, thereby helping to prevent the formation of acne. Sulphur based ointments tend to be moderately effective in mild occasional outbreaks of acne, but not for the acute acne sufferer.  Common side effects of these products are: skin discoloration and Irritation and burning of the skin. In some cases, sulphur has been found to increase cell adhesion, which leads to a fresh outbreak of pimples.

3)     Hydrogen Peroxide

In recent years, Hydrogen Peroxide has been acclaimed on the internet as a ‘miracle cure’ for acne, with the fact it is cheap to buy from a pharmacy being very attractive for many.
Hydrogen Peroxide is a very effective anti-bacterial, killing most bacteria on contact. In truth, while Hydrogen Peroxide can be very effective at clearing up existing acne spots, it does not prevent acne from forming in the first place.

4)     Vitamin Supplements

Although it is undeniable that vitamin supplements can have a positive effect on acne. It is extremely unlikely that they will cure your skin condition on their own. Supplements are often used as part of a holistic acne remedy, and used properly, can increase the effectiveness of the cure. Commonly recommended supplements are:
a)     Vitamin A
  • Vitamin A is considered necessary for the skin to heal itself.
b)     Zinc
  • Zinc aids in the restoration of tissue and can help avert scarring.
  • It is also known to assist the body in resisting infection and inflammation.
c)     Omega 3 fatty acids.
  • Omega 3 fats are known to have anti-bacterial effects as well as anti-inflammatory. They help keep cell walls healthy, and are instrumental in the delivery of nutrients to the cell.

5)      Antibiotics

In more acute cases of acne, dermatologists and physicians will usually prescribe a course of antibiotics, most frequently, tetracycline, erythromycin and minocycline. Antibiotics, as the name implies, are designed to kill the bacterial infection, and can be effective at this. As with all other cures listed above, antibiotics are effective in curing existing outbreaks of acne, but are unable to prevent the acne from forming in the first place. For this reason it is common to see the acne sufferer have a recurrence soon after the use of the antibiotics is discontinued.

Cocoa Butter Mixed With Shea Butter - Awesome Natural Skin Care

Cocoa body butter can be used on a variety of body parts, not just the ever expanding belly of pregnant women. In our house we use the product as a totally body moisturizer, for dry feet and as a hand creme. The Butter melts into the skin leaving the skin soft, supple and never tacky. The delicate hint of chocolate dissipates in a matter of seconds and since we never use artificial fragrances our product does not contain phthalates.

The texture of shea butter is not like a regular lotion. Since you're dealing with pure shea butter you have to think of it like an oil... not like a lotion or cream. It melts to an oil very easily. When it is not melted it is slightly crumbly, and even hard depending on the temperature. If you take a pea sized amount and rub it between your hands, it melts to an oil at body temperature. Spread it all over and massage dry areas like cracked heals or elbows. Shea butter quickly absorbs into the skin so it does not leave a greasy feeling.

Cocoa butter is the fat extracted from cocoa beans and is used in a variety of products due to its healing properties and is often referred to as the ultimate moisturizer. Cocoa butter has been used by pregnant women for years in the treatment and prevention of stretch marks.

Shea butter, sometimes mixed with cocoa butter, is also a natural fat and is extracted from fruit of the Shea tree and is used as a moisturizer and an emollient in high-end cosmetics. Shea Butter contains vitamins A, E and F. These vitamins balance and normalize the skin. It is quickly absorbed into the skin without leaving a greasy residue.

The importance of what we put into our bodies is all around us is something we should also consider as a part of the things that we put on us. Every time we pick up a magazine we read about what we should eat, how much exercise we should have on a daily basis, and what vitamins we should be taking.

We find ourselves in the grocery store reading labels and deciding if that particular item is going to end up in our shopping cart. We have grown accustomed to thinking that if you can't pronounce a word/chemical on a food package then it can't be good for our bodies. We don't however, take time to read labels on the products we put on our bodies.

The following are some great items that can be used as skin care supplements to keep you looking good.

Kokum Butter comes from the Garcinia Tree. This butter is beneficial in aiding and regenerating tired and worn skin cells. It also supports elasticity and general flexibility of the skin wall.

Shea Butter comes from the vegetable fat of the Karite Tree. This is a fabulous butter for those seeking naturally healthy skin. This butter forms a water resistant, breathable film and makes a wonderful cosmetic base.

Cocoa Butter comes from the roasted seeds of the Cacao Tree. It contains natural antioxidants and is naturally rich in Vitamin E. Cocoa butter is often used in aromatherapy massage to promote relaxation. Cocoa Butter is easily absorbed into the skin and is known for its hydrating effects.

When you marry these two wonderful butters into one amazing body creme you create a moisturizer for the whole family. Organic Aloe, Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Vitamin E and Jojoba Oil are just a few of the natural botanical ingredients you will find in quality body butters. Created to help maintain skin elasticity and moisture, products with these ingredients are good for the skin.

The next time you purchase a body care product, read the label. Look for words like natural, organic, and even handcrafted. Skin is the largest organ of the human body! When you think about how you can take care of yourself in a natural way, think natural body care.

Care for dry skin - Do not look old again

If you have a dry skin and not too keen on having it look like a withered apple, then your only way out is to jump headlong into a dry skin care regimen. The dry skin is basically a dehydrated skin, very sensitive to the weather elements. So the dry skin care regimen is all about nourishing the skin and keeping it protected from external ravages.

Dry skin care involves getting to the roots of the problem. Apart from the intrinsically dry skin type, dryness can also be the result of taking drugs like diuretics, antispasmodics, and antihistamines. Dry skin can also result from medical conditions like hypothyroidism, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, seborrhea and diabetes. Excessive exposure to harsh weather elements like snow, sun and winds and the use of chemicals on the skin, Vitamin A and B deficiencies can lead to conditions of dryness too.

The essentially dry skin has a dull look about it especially around the mouth and the eyes and it feels taut and uncomfortable right after washing. Chapping and cracking are its severest symptoms.

Dry skin care primarily involves nourishing it with baby oil, gentle moisturizing creams and preferably, a non-detergent based, neutral-pH product to clean it. Dry skin needs an out-and-out cleaning but not with a commercial soap. After washing, always use a moisturizer to keep the skin looking and feeling soft and supple. It's good if you apply the moisturizer over a damp skin.

You can also use oil for hydrating your dry skin, however while massaging, take care not to stretch your skin. Apply oil profusely around the eyes, because this is the area most prone to wrinkles and crow's feet.

Dry skin care demands the application of only very gentle and preferably natural beauty care products. Thus when you retire for the night, massage yourself with a homemade nourishing cream. Or you can use a natural beauty mask consisting egg, honey, olive oil and rose water to provide your skin with all the nourishments.

A warm milk bath with a few drops of almond oil added to it will soften and hydrate your skin like nothing else. Dry, cracked lips respond well to a little milk cream mixed with rose water and lime juice, while style divas swear by the raw-beetroot-application-before-the-lipstick routine. Just a dab of Vaseline afterwards ensures that your lips remain pink and pretty.

Dry skin care also involves knowing what to stay away from. Overheated rooms, beauty care treatments that use steam and sudden changes of temperatures wreck havoc on a dry skin. While stepping out in the cold, liberally douse yourself with some kind of moisturizer, and pile on the sunscreen when you go out in the sun.

Your diet too plays an important role in containing the reverses of a dry skin. While smoking and fatty, oily foods are a definite no-no, fresh fruits and vegetables, along with copious quantities of water daily, improve the quality of your skin and they have also been proven to contain anti-aging properties. Thus with such foods in your diet, you not only remain healthy, but look also good.

There are many herbs that can be directly applied to the skin or consumed to help your condition of dryness. Thus chamomile, lavender, calendula, comfrey, tea tree oil, aloe vera and peppermint used in herbal facials are good for dry skin and borage, fennel, coltsfoot or calendula tea can be had daily for a youthful looking skin.

Dry skin care actually means pampering your skin, for you have to always keep in mind that you are dealing with something very fragile.

Regular application of Retinal can make the skin soft and smooth. The pores will be cleaned and less visible and wrinkles will be less pronounced thus the signs of aging would be reduced. Retinal has been found to improve skin texture, tone and color.

Common Vitamins and over the counter products can help with aging such as Vitamin A, Antioxidants, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, and Aloe Vera.

Substances called Antioxidants can neutralize free radical by pairing up or binding with the free radical elections thus inhibiting them from damaging cells in the human body. Natural Antioxidants are abundant in fruits and vegetables such as, apples, blueberries, broccoli, cherries, cranberries, Grapes, spinach, and Spirulina a blue-green algae.

Vitamin D is manufactured in the skin following direct exposure to sunlight. Many studies show that Vitamin D production decreases in older people and in those who are housebound. Vitamin D is needed by the body to absorb calcium, which makes your bones stronger and helps prevent fractures.

Vitamin E is also clinically prove as an effective antioxidant. It also improves our skin's moisture and content, but also has skin protection properties and is good in smoothing our skin.

Aloe Vera will help rejuvenate and tone skin all over. A naturally cooling gel, the Aloe Vera botanical ingredients work together to stimulate the blood circulation and naturally soften the skin.

If you just feel that you need vitamins, supplements or herbs to fight the aging process then find a good health care professional prior to starting any type of home treatment.

Skin Care Tips Against Acne

Although some people need to see a dermatologist to get clear skin, many people can become virtually acne free with smart acne skin care. There are many myths concerning acne skin care that cause even more breakouts for acne sufferers, but if you know the facts, you can prevent acne breakouts and get clear skin sooner after a breakout.

Chocolate, greasy foods and excessive exercise have always taken the blame for acne. The truth is that none can prevent you from having acne free skin. The true basis for acne breakouts relates directly to poor skin care habits, stress and hormone levels as the main causes. There is very little you can do about your hormones, however you can take steps to reduce stress or find a better skin care routine.

Any stress relief you can do, whether it is exercise, reading, or studying for that test ahead of time instead of cramming at the last minute, will help prevent acne breakouts. While you cannot always be stress free, acne skin care is something you can always do that will help keep you as acne free as possible.

Acne presents a major problem for many, both physically and emotionally, even though their acne can be relatively mild. The spontaneous outbreaks occur in large part on the face, back, and chest, but can occur in other areas. The most common cause of acne is oily skin that traps common types of bacteria that then thrive just below the surface of skin. An alternative to chemicals and drugs is the natural way of treating your acne. You do not have to go that far the treatment is right in your home.

Acne skin care should gently clean your skin and avoid irritating it. Acne breakouts, especially pimples, are essentially skin irritations. You want to make sure that you do not make breakouts any worse with improper skin care. The first and most basic thing you should do is wash you face, or other affected area, at least once a day. If you have oily skin, you may want to wash twice a day. Simply use soap and water, and do not scrub your face, as this will only further irritate your skin. Try to be as gentle as possible when drying your face, as well. Washing your face helps remove excess oil, which prevents the pores from getting clogged and forming pimples. Also, if you wear makeup, you should use water based, not oil based, makeup so that your pores can breathe.

Popping or squeezing pimples can actually make breakouts worse if done prematurely. If you attempt to pop a pimple before it is ready, you are more likely to bruise your skin, which will leave a long-lasting red spot. The pimple can also pop and go deeper underneath your skin. This can cause an even worse pimple, known as a cystic nodule, which forms a hard, painful lump. Cystic nodules, like bruising your skin, can be very noticeable and can take a long time to go away. For this reason, popping pimples when they appear should not be your first acne skin care option.

Getting a sunburn can also worsen acne breakouts and keep you from having clear skin. A sunburn is very rough on your skin just like excessive scrubbing or popping pimples prematurely. A water-based sun block should protect your skin while keeping your pores from clogging. Breakouts will always occur occasionally, but with proper choices and good acne skin care, you can prevent breakouts and keep your skin looking healthier overall.

Natutal skin care products - How and Why to Use

The human skin is the largest organ of the human body. It not only has quite a complex structure, but also performs several life sustaining functions.
We can live without a Spleen, Gall Bladder, or an Appendix, and we can survive with only one Kidney or one Lung, but we cannot survive without our skin. As a result it is of the utmost importance that we take care of our skin.
Using natural skin care products is a good first step in providing the skin with the right nutrients and building materials to retain its health and functionality.

What Does Our Skin Actually Do for Us?
Our skin has many functions, most of which we are unaware of until something goes wrong. They include:
  • Regulation of body temperature;
  • Protection against the elements;
  • Sensation;
  • Excretion;
  • Immunity;
  • Blood storage and
  • Synthesis of Vitamin D.
In summary, these functions provide us with awareness of our surrounding climatic environment, protect us against some of the bacteria and other potentially harmful bugs in our surroundings, allow us to experience touch and feel, eliminate toxins from our body, store blood, and provide the means for our body to obtain vitamin D while protecting our body from the sun’s UV-rays.
Considering these vital functions our skin has to perform, it is no surprise that we need to look after our skin and make sure it is given every opportunity to function properly and remain healthy.

Why You Should Choose Natural Skin Care Products?

With all the media and news reports warning consumers of the potentially toxic ingredients in many of the commercially available skin care products sold in supermarkets and department stores, this is an easy question to answer.
Firstly, many of the commonly used skin care products contain artificial and/or synthetic ingredients that the body has difficulties in eliminating, and as a result it tends to store these chemicals in its tissues. Research has shown that the accumulation of many of these substances can have serious health effects.
If you are interested in learning more about some of the toxic chemicals used in skin care products, please read the article “Potentially Toxic Ingredients In Skin Care Products”. It will provide you with much information and research references for you to be able to identify what is in your skin care products and what should not be there.
Holistically natural skin care products do not contain artificial or synthetic ingredients. They should also not contain isolated, concentrated, natural substances, such as parabens (pseudo-natural preservative) and the like, that have been shown to be potentially hazardous.

How To Choose Natural Skin Care Products That are Safe and Effective?

This is where it starts to get really difficult. You see, many so called natural or organic skin care products are in reality nothing of the kind. Adding a miniscule amount of aloe vera to water does not constitute a holistically natural skin care product. It may be ‘natural’ or even ‘organic’, but it will not be effective and therefore is a waste of your money.

To have an effective aloe vera product for example, it requires at least 10% of the overall content to be aloe vera. Or, the aloe vera needs to be combined with several other active, natural ingredients that are combined to achieve a specific result.

The term ‘Organic’ is another area where consumers are being misled. Adding a single ‘organic’ ingredient and then calling the products ‘organic’, is quite simply wrong. You see the commercials on television and magazines every day... “xyz product contains organic this and organic that”... but no mention is made of the other ingredients that are contained in these products, many of which have been shown to be hazardous to our health.

There is yet another problem with natural skin care products, that is an area of confusion and potentially misleading. Just ask yourself what exactly is “natural”? What is actually meant by the term “natural”?
The word ‘natural’ congers up images of nature - pristine environments that make us feel good. A safe, natural environment that is conducive to health and a sense of wellbeing. Spring water, waterfalls, pristine lakes, a healthy salads, Rainforests, etc., are all images that we perceive as ‘natural’, or in other words ‘good for us’.

The cosmetic industry has ceased on this and is using the word natural to instil in their advertisements a sense of wellbeing and the idea that this product is good for us. Unfortunately, one or two natural ingredients does not a natural skin care product make... Far from it, natural skin care products should not contain any ingredients that are not naturally sourced. This brings us to another problem with natural skin care products.
A naturally sourced ingredient, such as the various forms of paraben, may still be potentially hazardous. Just think about it - would you put arsenic or lead on your skin? No of course you wouldn’t. But, they are natural, so what’s the problem? Natural substances too can also be deadly poisons. Applying this to skin care products, you might be looking for a product that is natural and contains AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids), which we know help to remove dead skin cell layers which in turn helps to remove fine lines and wrinkles, revealing new vibrant skin.

Now, you could buy a product that lists as one of its ingredients AHAs, it might even contain AHA in its name, or you could buy a product that contains a concentrate called papain, which is a natural substance from the Papaya fruit. So, yes papain is natural and yes this product could, depending on other ingredients, be called a natural skin care product. However, papain is a concentrate and as such many people have experienced side effects because the papain is present in too high a concentration for some people.
A truly, holistically natural skin care product would not contain papain as an extract. Rather it would contain Papaya fruit itself. You see, the whole fruit still contains papain, however, it also contains other ingredients in the papaya that modify the excessively strong effect of the papain. Choosing such a product will, at least to a large extent, reduce any potential side effects from the papain, because the product is naturally balanced and contains naturally balanced ingredients that will benefit your skin rather than burn it.

The results of removing fine lines and wrinkles may take a little longer, but are overall better and you reduce the chance of ‘burning’ your skin with a concentrated AHA. Remember AHA stands for alpha hydroxy acid and we all know acids burn our skin.

How To Use Natural Skin Care Products?

Following directions
This is actually a lot more important than most people think. Directions for use are a communication by the manufacturer of a product to their consumers about how to use and get the best results from a particular product. It has been our experience, that most people who purchase our natural skin care products do not read the directions and use our products the same way that they have been using their previous brand. This however, may or may not be the correct way to use our products.

Properly formulated products contain ingredients in sufficiently high quantities to achieve a desired effect if used in accordance with the product’s directions. Using more does not mean better or quicker results, rather using too much can have adverse effects or no more effect than the lesser quantity.
Conversely, if for example, the product’s directions suggest that it be used 2 or 3 times a day using it merely once is not likely to produce the desired effect in most cases. This is obvious when we think about taking medicine. We read the directions and take the drugs, herbs, or what ever, as prescribed and hopefully we get the desired result.

So why is it that we do this when it comes to taking medicine, but ignore it (for the most part) when it comes to using skin care products or other personal care products?
Reading the instructions carefully and following them ensures that a) you are not wasting your money, and b) you should get the desired results.

Good and Bad Reactions from Using Skin or Personal Care Products

There are several possible reactions you may experience. There are good reactions and negative reactions.
Let's look at good reactions to begin with.

Good Skin Reactions to New Products

Herbs, essential oils and most of the other ingredients that you'll find in our range of products have a medicinal actions and are included for a specific purpose, that is, the formulations that make up our various products were originally designed to treat particular skin health issues. This intent, though we do not actively promote this, continues to this day.

As you probably know, there are three basic skin types; Normal, Oily and Dry. In addition, your skin may also be sensitive, prone to allergic reactions or under the influence of hormonal changes that are taking place in your body. The herbs and essential oils in our products are specifically chosen to normalise the skin given one of the skin types. The herbs and essential oils will have a therapeutic effect on the skin's structure and function in order to provide an environment under which your skin will start to function normally again.
Similarly this is relevant for sensitive skin that tends to react inappropriately to different stimuli. It is possible, for example, that an individual with sensitive skin who is using our products for the first time, will experience a reaction which they may see as being a negative reaction.

This however, may well be totally the opposite to what is actually taking place. You see, in order for your skin's health to improve, it has to change. This change may appear at first as a worsening of a particular skin issue and this will understandably be interpreted as a negative.
Under normal circumstances however, this type of reaction, if the products are continued with, will only last for a few days and following this time the skin will improve and end up much healthier. This process is sometimes referred to as 'A healing crisis', and is actually a good thing to happen.
It signifies that the ingredients are doing what they are supposed to, that is they are repairing and normalising the skin's functions.
This is a normal and in fact good reaction.

Bad Skin Reactions to New Products

Obviousely there are times when a new product may actually cause a bad skin reaction. Unfortunately a bad reaction often appears very similarly to a good reaction. So how can you tell the difference and what should you do?
The first thing to do when ever you purchase a new skin or personal care product is to test it to see if you have any adverse reactions to this product. Below is a detailed outline and links that will provide you with all the information you need to test a new product in order to determine whether or not your skin is going to react adversely to it or not.

Test the Products to Avoid Allergic Reactions

Another important aspect to using any skin care, personal care or cosmetic products, whether they are natural or otherwise, is to test the products first in order to see if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.
To do this, follow the steps described in our article The Skin Patch Test, which will provide you with a simple, yet effective step-by-step test that you can easily do at home over a 24 hour period, to reasonably ensure that you will not experience major adverse reactions to the ingredients in products you want to use on your face, or anywhere else on your body. This test is simple and very effective.

Finally, before you purchase a product, look at the ingredients list and see if the ingredients are easily recognisable. As a rule of Thumb, if the ingredients are easily recognisable it is more likely that the ingredients are of a natural source and have not been excessively modified. If on the other hand you need a chemistry degree to understand what the ingredient is, it is likely not to be a holistically-natural ingredient. It may still be a natural ingredient, but it is likely that it has been isolated and is used in a concentrated, possibly even synthetic form.

For the most part, most ‘natural skin care products’ widely available in the market place are far from natural or that matter organic. Most have minimal quantities of some natural ingredient in an otherwise non-natural product and are referring to the one natural ingredient in the product, rather than the nature of the product itself.

Hopefully this article will clarify some of the confusion that exists about what is a natural skin care product and what is not, help you to choose natural skin care products that will actually live up to your expectations, and clarify why using natural skin care products is a healthier choice.
